Tudta-e? ?
There is a lot of variation in the Saluki type, which is desirable and typical of the breed. This is due to the special place the breed has in the Arab tradition and immensity of the Middle East region, where each tribe bred its own type. This variance was preserved when the breed was imported into Britain.
On the whole, Salukis express grace and symmetry, as well as great speed and endurance coupled with strength and activity. Rather cat-like in its behavior, the breed also exists in a rarer smooth-coated variety. Salukis are reserved with strangers, but neither timid nor aggressive, full of dignity and intelligence, while cultivating a certain degree of independence.

Originally, each tribe had dogs that were best suited to hunting game specific to their region. After Middle Eastern tradition, these dogs were never bought and sold, only given as marks of honor. As a result, those presented to Europeans, which went on to constitute the breeding stock in Britain, varied in function based on the great diversity in terrain and weather conditions where they were bred. The British standard published in 1923, the first official one in Europe, took great care to embrace the rich diversity of the breed.
