The skin must be smooth and elastic all over the body, although it can form almost concentric lines on the head and around eyes and cheeks. The internal and external temperature of Peruvian Hairless Dogs is exactly the same as those of other dogs. Because of the absence of hair, heat leaves the body directly, contrary to dogs with hair, where heat is dissipated through the hair by natural ventilation.
Active and alert, noble and affectionate with those they know well, with strangers Peruvian Hairless Dogs are wary, making them great guard dogs.

Some experts say the breed was brought to Peru by Chinese immigrants not long after the abolition of slavery in the 1860s. Others claim it came with nomads from Africa. Still others postulate that it followed Asian migrants that crossed the Behring Strait. What is certain is that various pre-Inca pottery bears depictions of these dogs.Their general build is that of a svelte dog, suggesting speed, strength and harmony without any coarseness. As well as their characteristic lack of hair, these dogs almost always have an incomplete set of teeth.
