Champions of endurance, Halden Hounds are medium-sized dogs with an innate hunting instinct, built to follow a trail for hours without losing their stride.
Halden Hounds are members of a loyal and gentle breed. These qualities, together with their suitability to training and friendly temperament make them very good companion dogs that are easy to live with.

Straight topline, strong back, broad, muscular loins, slightly sloping croup.

White with black patches, tan shadings on head and limbs, sometimes between the white and black patches. Black must not predominate.

Halden Hounds are rectangular-shaped dogs, proud, strong but never heavy. The smallest of the Norwegian hounds.It is believed that imported Foxhounds, Beagles and other hounds where crossed with local dogs to produce Halden Hounds, which take their name from a town in southeast Norway close to the Swedish border. Most of the breed population is still found in the region.
