Hanoverian Hounds have a lightly wrinkled forehead and lively dark eyes, producing an oh so typical serious gaze. The coat is predominantly red, ranging from light fawn to dark brindle, even sometimes appearing almost black.

Just by looking at them, you know that Hanoverian Hounds have a big appetite for work. These are medium-sized, well proportioned, powerful dogs, with well set, very muscular front and rear legs that enable them to work tirelessly. Legs that are too long are contrary to type, because they have a negative impact on the performance of the dog, which has to work with its nose close to the ground. The broad, deep chest is able to accommodate the big lungs needed to take part in long, tiring pursuits.
