As a versatile hunting dog, German Wirehaired Pointers have all the qualities needed to work on the flat, or in woodland and marshland, anticipating or responding to the gunshot.
German Wirehaired Pointers have remarkable qualities that are recognized throughout the globe, but in their native country they are considered to be the epitome of the pointing breeds. These firm, self-assured dogs are well balanced, without shyness or aggression.

German Wirehaired Pointer breeding started in earnest at the end of the 19th century, with the aim of producing an efficient, firm gundog, based on the principle that efficiency conditions type and the need to give breeders maximum latitude. The best wirehaired breeds were involved in the program (Pudelpointer, Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, German Wirehaired Pointer), together with the German Shorthaired Pointer to over time produce a dog with a virtually weather-proof coat and the versatility to succeed in all fields of work.
